RE X.3031 - MAGNALIUM METAL

We have made further enquiries with respect to this metal and now we have two quotations.

The Metropolitan Foundry, Barnes Bridge, London, S.W., say:-

"We shall be pleased to supply you with magnalium alloy, the present price of which is £325 per ton, less 5% discount for cash in seven days".

Messrs. George C. Blackwell, Sons & Co. Ltd., The Albany, Liverpool would, if we secure the release of the necessary aluminium, and have it forwarded to them, supply this converted to magnalium metal at £115 per ton.

Reckoning price of aluminium as £230 per ton, this would mean £345 per ton.

We think it would be better in the first instance, to order up a sample of each of these, and we are therefore, instructing the Order Office to try and obtain 1 cwt. of each. It will be a suitable quantity from which to make a number of test pieces, and experimental parts in this alloy.

Up to the present we have only obtained ½ cwt. of magnalium metal, about which, Mr. Nadin remarks :-

"I have been unable to obtain any real magnalium. I bought some about 9 months ago, but we found its specific gravity was about 2.9. It was not like the original metal, and was an odd lot which some merchant had in stock".
