1280 Experimental Dept. Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Std.4/MH. {M. Huckerby} 15th. July 1938. Messrs. John Marston Ltd., WOLVERHAMPTON. For the attention of Mr. Dunn. Dear Sirs, With regard to the Bentley III experimental radiator which you have just supplied to us, a good deal of difficulty was experienced in fitting this to the chassis, owing to the bottom of the shell, and consequently the shutters grille, being too close to the radiator yoke - the shutter bearing strip support bracket (EB.3985) which controls this dimension was incorrect in size being about .375" too short. The same difficulty was experienced to a lesser degree with the previous Bentley 50 radiator and we would like you to ensure that it does not occur on the second Bentley III radiator which you are supplying. Another defect of the radiator was that therest angle support brackets EB.3868/9 were incorrectly shaped, the space between the ear which turns out to support the shell and the ear which links up with the bonnet rest angle being too little so that difficulty was experienced in fitting up the rest angle - dimension 'D' marked on the print of EB.3868 attached, was too small. Will you please ensure that this is corrected on future radiators. We have completed the necessary detail drawings for the Bentley 50 radiator and these are attached - a detail of the above-mentioned bracket EB.3985 being included. Attached also is an up to date list of parts for the Bentley 50 radiator. These details are substantially the same for Bentley III and Bentley 50 radiators with the exception of the differences necessitated by the 1/2" height difference. The L.O.P. has been marked to show the parts which would be supplied by ourselves - those marked 'R.R.' in note column are the items in question. | ||
