re Barnato's Bentley V.{VIENNA}

Referring to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/ET.12.11.40, I am glad you have been able to get Barnato's car right, as I did not like the idea of him continuing to use the car with the complaint which existed when we saw him up here.

I note that the crashing on the front suspension was due to the front springs being wrong and that although they were correct to the drawing, the springs supplied to the Experimental Dept. to the same drawing are 3/16" longer. This seems extraordinary, and it rather looks as if we should have been in trouble if we had gone ahead with production in the ordinary way.

I presume that you will have this matter taken up with whoever is responsible, and if - as I imagine - we have the springs in stock for a number of Bentley V's, see that they are returned to the makers for credit if the mistake is theirs.

The main thing we want to avoid is them ever being used.

Regarding the servo judder, I gather that this was not due to any particular fault, but to some unknown cause which you are still investigating.
