BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ) FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) Copy to SG{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}5/M20.3.29. 20HP. GEARBOX. FREEWHEEL IN SIDESHAFT. X5310 X523 With reference to R4/M7.3.29., we are sending herewith N. schemes 2767/2772/2773., shewing the scheme for a freewheel in the sideshaft of the 20HP. box. This has been finished for some time but we delayed sending it to you because we believed you would not be able to work on it. With the slackening off of SS.{S. Smith} experimental work no doubt you will be able to take it up. It has been schemed to go into the existing box practically without alteration, and is therefore somewhat experimental. Should it be successful probably some modifications would be required. This applies particularly to the method of locking up the freewheel with a jaw clutch, and the operating handle. There may be leaks from the latter where it leaves the gearbox but we should not think they would be important. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
