To ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/GEA. from EFC. X3646 EFC3/T25.1.23. X.4563 - ELECTROSTATIC VOLTMETER X3646 With reference to the letter from the Cambridge & Paul Instrument Co. of the 23rd. inst. suggesting a visit of their resident engineer to discuss this matter with us, we do not think that this would be worth while at the moment for two reasons, namely:- (1) We have not yet decided upon a suitable rectifying valve with which this instrument would have to work. As you may know, we are awaiting further information promised by the end of January by the Edison Swan Elec. Co. in their letter of the 20th December, ref. Lamp Sales/PL/W. (2) When we have decided upon a suitable valve, it is considered desirable to obtain Mr. Royce's sanction to experiments of the nature which will involve the purchase of this apparatus, before actually placing orders. Perhaps therefore you will kindly write to the Cambridge & Paul Instrument Co. suitably to postpone this visit, stating that subject to the expected development of this matter, it will no doubt be of great assistance to see their engineer and obtain his advice on the particular instrument we should use. Early in February, if nothing has been received from the Edison Swan Co., perhaps you would write and enquire if the results of their experiments have now put them in a position to offer us a suitable high tension valve.
