COPY EFC. WD.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} 31. 29.1.29 WATFORD EW6 MAGNETO No.100081. This magneto has been removed from expl. chassis 10-EX owing to a complaint of bad misfiring. The history of this magneto has been very unsatisfactory. After running 3916 miles on the chassis the contact breaker points burned away and were replaced and now after only 2761 miles further running the points are almost gone again and require renewing. Upon testing this magneto on the bench after adjusting the contact breaker we confirmed the fact that misfiring occurred in the advanced position. The retarded performance appears quite O.K. at high and low speeds so that the fault does not appear to be due so much to weakness as to the internal timing being too far advanced. If the advanced timing was made very critical any slight deteroration in magnet strength or the presence of a leak would immediately be apparent in the advanced performance of the magneto. We should be glad to have Messrs. North's comments and report on this magneto particularly as to why the contact points have worn so badly. EFC/H.E.West. | ||
