Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWI. [STAMP: RECEIVED 5 NOV 1930] Hdq/KW5.11.30. Re Chassis troubles and Customers' Complaints. Valve Springs Breaking. In view of the work that has recently been carried out on valve springs and the various modifications that have been effected, I consider that the necessary action has already been taken to obviate any further trouble. I am arranging however to keep a check on the failures to see whether any of the latest type springs are affected. Valves Sticking. Generally speaking this complaint is due to either - (a) Carbon deposit on the valve stem and guide after a fairly big mileage. (b) Overheating. The first trouble is [strikethrough]obviated[/strikethrough] for a considerable mileage by taper reaming the inner ends of the guides and is not likely to require any attention except when the engine is decarbonised. The second trouble is of course a separate issue and [strikethrough]should[/strikethrough] be dealt with as such. Radiator Shutters. As this complaint is due chiefly to the binding of the pivot pins at each end of the vanes, I consider that the proposed shortening of the pins and increased clearances, which I understand is to be done, will overcome the trouble. Rear Axle Oil Leaks. This particular job needs consideration after seeing results of further tests which are to be carried out. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
