20/25 "U" Series instrument board.

In testing one of these R.R. patches, fitted with Smith instruments, on the road it has been found that the electric petrol gauge which is placed next to the speedometer is affected by the magnetic impulses radiated from the rotating magnet inside the A.T. magnetic speedometer. These impulses cause the petrol gauge needle to oscillate badly.

Moving the petrol gauge to the position immediately beneath the ammeter prevents any oscillation of the petrol gauge needle.

We should be glad therefore if you will arrange to alter the position of the petrol gauge accordingly on drawing D.53102.

The position of the instruments will then be, looking at the front :-

Speedometer - extreme left.
Thermometer - Top left.
Oil gauge - bottom left.
Petrol gauge - bottom right.
ammeter - top right.
Clock - extreme right.

Also we think it would be a distinct improvement as regards appearance if the needle of the Smith petrol gauge could be made the same width as the needle of the Lucas Ammeter.
