To Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler} from EFC. X4181 EFC12/T13.11.23. X.4181 - E.O.6 MAGNETO- EX CHASSIS 12EO. We have investigated the fault on this magneto, and we find as you say that there is a H.T. breakdown from the collecting brush moulded-in conductor to the aluminium securing plate, equivalent to a sparking voltage of 1/4 mm., though on 200 volts A.C. there is no fault. We are not doing anything further with this until consulting you, but if you think this desirable, we could put this on our H.T. transformer with a voltage equivalent to 1/4 mm. gap, but with sufficient power behind to carbonize the fault and render it more evident. Or, the piece could be dismantled as it is in the hopes of seeing the fault. Perhaps, however, you may prefer to send the magneto as it is for Watfords own investigation. We therefore await your instructions. EFC. | ||
