EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT REPORT. L.L. Smith REFERENCE :- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}/CHP.1/GB.11.12.34. Subject of Report:- Comparison of Bentley "Close-Centres" Head with Standard Head. General Conclusions: The "Close-Centres" Head obtained by simple alteration to the Standard Head gives better performance than the Standard Head. The gain in power may be from 6.0 - 8.7% over the whole speed range or from zero at low speeds to 15.6% at 4500 r.p.m. according to the choice of valve timing, the latter with less detonation than standard.
