To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Ry. ORIGINAL Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG12.6.22. GOSHAWK II - REAR AXLE SHAFTS. x4256 We have had made by an outside firm (E.N.V. Ltd) two pairs of Goshawk rear axle shafts, one pair in air-hardened steel and the other pair in selected C.H.N.S. We are carrying out tests on the road wheel dynamometer running the car with unequal sizes of rear wheels. Comparative tests of these shafts with those which have worn badly are being made. The air-hardened shafts appear to be what we require. The teeth are really hard whilst the shaft has a brinell figure of 321. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
