Proposed tests to improve fuel distribution by lowering the carburettor position by lengthening the weir pipe bend.

contd :- -2- to the single cast weir pipe, and so lowering the carburetter, the mix distribution was improved and the disturbing effect of the throttle position was lessened. With both these systems the carburetter comes in a higher position than standard which reduces the 'head' of the petrol supply from the autovac. We have not yet tested out the system to determine if we get an adequate petrol flow but this is being carried out. In any case the reduced head - approximately 12 ins. with the built up weir pipe - would allow greater possibility of an air lock preventing free feed to the carburetter when re-starting if at any time the autovac had become empty. For the purpose of a test we propose to lengthen the bend so that the carburetter is lowered to the present standard position. As well as simplifying the controls and increasing the fuel head we think this may still further improve the distribution. We are continuing to work on these weir systems, firstly in conjunction with the present std. chassis carburetter with the object that it could be applied to the Alpine Phantom type of car and secondly in conjunction with a vertical RRCH. carburetter in order to obtain information and so develop the system for the proposed Phantom with the carb. on the steering box side of the engine. The built up pipe is particularly suitable for experimental work and we intend to determine the best contd :- | ||
