WEIR TYPE INDUCTION PIPES ON PHANTOM
AND GENERAL DISTRIBUTION.

We have carried out some preliminary cold distribution tests on the kk lighter Phantom with the two weir type induction pipes using the std. chassis carburetter and obtained some promising results.

As far as these bench tests go both schemes are an improvement over the standard system giving steadier torque under wide open throttle at low speeds without hot spot heating.
The built-up weir pipe however gave slightly inferior results to the single cast weir pipe. Both pipes give a very slight increase in power output over the whole range but this only amounted to one and a half per cent.

The distribution tendency with both these pipes using the standard carburetter was for the end cylinders - Nos. 1 and 6 - to be rich while the centre cylinders appeared weak. This however was not so marked as with the standard system.

The built up weir pipe was tested with and without the washer which formed the projecting lip inside the main distributing pipe and it was found that this lip improved the distribution.

The built up weir pipe had a short bend connecting the carburetter with the distributing pipe and it was proved that by substituting this for the longer bend belonging
