Howard Graham, Ltd., Tiddington Road, Stratford-on-Avon. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 18th ultimo, ref., HCW/DMC/6395, and are glad to note that you think that the modifications we suggest will result in satisfactory operation of the Harris bearing. We are sorry that here also illness has resulted in delay, but we are now able to send you as requested sketches showing the suggested dimensions of the metal parts containing the bearings. You will note that we are proposing using Harris bearings in this way in two places, and our drawing No. PL.505 covers both these applications. The first shown in the upper part of our drawing, is the one previously mentioned, where Harris bush No.771 is used; as previously stated the normal journal load is of the order of 60 lbs., but end loads up to a maximum of some 1,000 lbs. can occur. The total angular movement is 54°, and by suitable choice of bearing position when tightening up, this can be made ± 27°. The second application shown in the lower part of PL.505, is for your Harris bush No.705. Here the normal journal load is some 350 lbs., and an end load of some 1,000 lbs. together with an increase in journal load to 1,800 lbs. approximately may occur infrequently. Here the angular movement is only ± 11½°. We have in each case shown our suggested dimensions for the metal enclosing parts, and if in your opinion these are likely to be satisfactory, we will arrange to have them incorporated in the detail drawings. Yours faithfully, D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Bastow. | ||
