1260 Mgr. from LS. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LS.2/T12.7.38. -------------------- CHASSIS COSTS. A meeting was held in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}' office (Monday 11th) to discuss the question of Wraith Costs. Present:- Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/McClure BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LS. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} pointed out that as we were on the eve of production of Wraith, it was of prime importance that we should have a clear idea of what the cost of the chassis is going to be. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} said that towards the end of this year, assuming we made 176 chassis, the labour cost of Wraith should be between £120/130. He had reasonable hopes of ultimately getting this figure down to £90. As regards B.50, he thought that the ultimate labour cost for this should be in the neighbourhood of £70. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} hoped to get the factory cost of the Wraith Gear Box down to £30, and said that the B.50 common gear box should be considerably cheaper. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} was very anxious that we should have an early estimate of the approximate cost of B.50, and RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} will try to give a preliminary figure before the holidays commence. The importance of close co-operation between designers and works in the early stages of design was stressed, and it was arranged that Mr. McClure should be responsible for advising the Design Department on the question of production costs as new designs were developed.
