X.4565 To CJ. BJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} } BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} PN.{Mr Northey} } R2/M.7.24. RE. SEMI-BALLOON TYRES. X.4565. These tyres seem a doubtful improvement. Opinions may be summarised as follows :- (1) Dunlops seem more noisy than the usual standard tyre. (2) Very heavy at slow speed steering. (3) Car hasslight tendency to pitch. (4) Mileage reported less than standard. (5) Doubtful adhesion, especially when worn. (6) Less advantage to big car than small car. These opinions should be confirmed, and we ought to go slowly, but continue testing with Dunlop and other makes on both Goshawk and 40/50. Confirmation should also be obtained after experience on continental roads as well as English. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
