COTAL ELECTRO-MAGNETIC GEARBOX.

(1) For engines of between 4 and 5 litres cylinder capacity, the 35 metre kilog. the Cotal type gearbox weighs 56 kilgs.

(2) The pinions and bearings have never given any trouble (Delahaye, Delage) with Peugeot some AR. run pinions have been broken, on experimental cars only, but not amongst those of our customers'.
Some cases of side-slip to report in second gear, at low temperatures.

(3) The clutches have no need to be treated at all roughly. (in these mechanisms automacity is not absolute; there still remains the necessity for a certain co-operation on the part of the driver, which, even though small, can decide the roughness or smoothness of the running.)

(4) From the consumption point of vue. The gearbox designed for engines of 2 and 2.5 litres uses 2.5 amps. hour and all the cars equipped with these boxes are supplied with double-output dynamos with normally maintained batteries. There is no failure to report.

For 4,5 litre engines the consumption is 4,5 amps. hour. The 12 volt. 90 amps. batteries hold perfectly.

Cotal gearboxes, used notably by Delage on 12 cylinder cars (Paris-Liege, Rome-Liege) and the Monte Carlo Rally, behaved perfectly and can be described as follows:-

35 mtres kilog. gearbox. Fed by batteries of 12. volt. 90 amps.
2 types of scale. (A) 0.33 (B) 0.36
0.48 0.50
0.72 0.73

(5) The French which have adopted the Cotal gearbox are Delage, Delahaye and Peugeot and the importance of their market with Cotal was clearly growing at the moment of the declaration of war.
