Pre-Ignitions. Extract from Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/y A19/L 8.3.16 or 200 HP Aero Engine. As soon as we got the engine running well with the cylinders at normal temperature we were troubled with pre-ignitions, it was due to the plugs; they were the standard Lodge. I am sending one which has pre-ignited on to Mr Royce, he will notice that the porcelain insulator inside the plug looks as though it has been at a melting heat. Plugs of this type have run quite well on the standard engine with 80 lbs compression. We have got over the trouble with the 200 HP by fitting Lodge Aero plugs, these plugs are used on the Renault engines with complete success; they have mica insulation. We cannot think of adopting the Lodge waterproof plug unless it is made in the same way as the aero plugs. [Left Margin Text] X 601 10 | ||
