We have had a number of serious complaints from owners of 20-HP. cars, re spring squeaks. In our endeavour to remove these complaints we have made leather extensions to the ordinary gaiters which enclose the ends of the springs in order to supply lubricant to and also to protect from dirt the end of the second plate. It will be noted that the end of the second plate is not covered by the gaiter, and depends for its lubrication upon the lubricant entering the spring from the sides, and working along to the end of the plate. We think the extension to the gaiters effects an improvement in that lubricant is retained round the end of the second plate, and also dirt and water are, to a large extent, excluded. We suggest that a suitable extension might be incorporated in the gaiter as a part of it, instead of being a loose and separate fitting. So far we have made a few sets of these extensions ourselves, but a much neater job could be made by the Makers of the gaiters if made as a part of the gaiter. We would be glad to have your views on this matter. Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} /NRC. {N. R. Chandler} | ||
