X4094. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/AD. September 9th, 1932. The Adamant Engineering Co.Ltd. Dallow Rd. Luton. For the attention of Mr. Carlton Smith. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 30th August and are most interested to see the results you have obtained on your steering gear. These results have enabled us to compare it with our own and to satisfy ourselves that it will be more irreversible than our own. At the same time we have been in communication with General Motors of America, in particular the Cadillac Motor Car Co. and they tell us that they have come to the conclusion that the latest Marles gear as fitted to the Buick is the best thing they know of. They state that this gear is made with roller thrusts and with needle bearings for the roller and rocking shaft also with angular ball bearings in the rollers and with single and double tooth rollers. We have no doubt that you are aware of all the improvements that are fitted to the Buick and can give us a steering gear containing all these modifications. We should, of course, be exceedingly interested to see the tests which you have carried out on the Marles Weller steering gear repeated on the Marles should you have conducted such tests for your own information. | ||
