Referring to Br/07/C.29.9.38, we were under the impression that you returned faulty calorstats direct to Messrs. S. Smith & Sons Ltd. - apparently this is not so. We have now checked the calorstats in question and the results are given in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.3/MH.{M. Huckerby}C.10.38.

With regard to the last paragraph of your memo, we were referring to our Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.1/MH.{M. Huckerby}25.6.38 when we stated that we had already requested the return of defective thermometers to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. - reference to that memo (Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.1/MH.{M. Huckerby}25.6.38) reveals that a typographical error has occurred in it and the word thermostat was used by mistake instead of thermometer - reference to the Complaint Reports N.1089 and N.1090 mentioned therein, however, would have indicated that this was an error.

We wish you to return defective thermometers for Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std's examination, and suggest that you increase your floating stock to permit this - at our end we will ensure that the examination of the defective instruments causes a minimum of delay in returning the instruments to Smiths for rectification.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.
