Mor J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} for R.{Sir Henry Royce} X701 RE CROSS STEERING LEVERS - R6/P16714. 18.7.14. Dal/G18714. The one which broke was one made especially for Centre-Point Steering, cut from the solid. It was however, under the drawing size on one side the section, by approx .060 in thickness. In width it was also slightly undersize. The one on the nearside, which did not break, is .060 under drawing in width, and approximately right in thickness. This refers to the drawing as it originally was, before it was discovered that the dies were making the levers undersize. The drawing has subsequently been increased to +.125 on the width and the new dies are to this size. This of course, is in addition to the improved section for torsion. This lever ran for 9 hrs 20 mins.( though with only +2" bumps for 6 hrs 40 mins of that time ) Two cars 7 CA and 58 NA{Mr Nadin}, have C.P. Steering and therefore these levers. I have examined 7 CA and find its levers are - one +.030 in width and +. in thickness (compared with drawing) and th Contd. [Stamp]: W.M. 18 XII 1944 | ||
