Dear Mr. Matthews, Referring to our visit yesterday and to the very interesting discussion we had with you, we propose to put in hand about 48 compression rings with the high point of .020"/.025". Unfortunately it will be necessary to make patterns in order that we may form cast the rings. We propose giving them a pressure per square inch of approximately 15 lbs. We would have preferred to put high pressure rings in and for you to definitely increase the supply of oil to the cylinder walls, but we understand there is some difficulty in obtaining this increased oil supply, and therefore the high pressure rings cannot be tested in your engine as it exists. We would say, however, that it is not possible to fit high pressure rings without considerably increasing the supply of oil to the cylinder walls, in fact, they should be definitely flooded with oil. We should be obliged if you would kindly reply stating that this course meets with your approval, and if so, will you kindly send your covering order. We would put the rings in at the same price as those last supplied, although the invoice price of the ring will not by any means cover the manufacturing cost, but we propose to do this to carry out this test, which we trust will be to our mutual advantage. We are, Yours faithfully, HEPWÖRTH & GRANDAGE LTD., Joint Managing Director. | ||
