1256? January 24th.1938 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews}2/AP. Messrs. Hepworth & Grandage Ltd., St.John's Works, Bradford, YORKS. For the attention of Mr.W.Hepworth. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of the 21st. inst., and note that you propose supplying 48 compression rings with a high point of .020 to .025. There is one point, however, that we should prefer and that is that the rings should have a radial depth of .120 so that we can fit them to existing pistons without having to alter groove dimensions. The main point we are interested in is to get the material and form casting established and accepted before going on to increased pressure rings as pointed out to your representative the other day, we are not for some reason getting the results we expected from the higher pressure rings and until we have sorted the job out we prefer to stick to the normal proportion of ring which is satisfactory at the moment, when used in conjunction with the L. section ring. We are enclosing herewith the drawing of our normal compression ring E.60820 and should like rings made to the dimensions shown. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
