Gilt-edged WHAT THE Golden Ply IS THE Lifeguard Golden Ply is a specially compounded full cord ply of golden colour, directly under the tread, which extends from bead to bead and forms the outer casing ply of each Safety Gilt-edged cover. This ply is impregnated with a secret B.T.R. compound, which resists heat to a far greater degree than any other rubber compound known to the tyre industry. The proven heat resistance of the Golden Ply enables it to retain the full tenacity of its grip on the tread above, and the other plies below, regardless of the tremendous temperature developed inside the tyre. The purpose of the Golden Ply is to guard against one of the most dangerous causes of accident—a tyre burst at high speed. It makes B.T.R.
