20 HP. Chassis - India.

Further to mine Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}5/NJ17.2.25 and Firth's letter dated 16th inst. together with table giving particulars to which they propose to make the new front springs F.53332 which we are to obtain for testing out, we are in receipt of a letter from Thos. Firth & Sons Ltd. dated 20th inst. as follows:-

"We can now give you the total depth of these
"springs:-

550 lbs. - 1.86"
600 lbs. - 1.92"
650 lbs. - 1.98"

"the clip centres for No.3 Plate will be 13.847" and
"15.527" from the centre bolt, and for No.7, 6.31"
"and 7.19".

We have passed Firths our order No.40237, dated 20th inst. for 12 springs to be made in accordance with their proposals. The poundages of these springs are as follows:-

2 pairs 550 lbs.
2 pairs 600 lbs.
2 pairs 650 lbs.

In accordance with yours By5/H17.2.25, we have informed Firths that these springs must be fitted with Woodhead's Rebound Clip measuring .65" plus or minus .030" on the flat, also in accordance with By11/H20.2.25 that the radius in the neck of the main plate must be .500". We have also instructed them that the points of the clip plates are to be extended to a distance of 1.25" from the centre of the ears.

We have made it perfectly clear to Firths that until we have carried through our usual tests of springs with the narrower clip and the lengthened clip plates, such clips and clip plates must not be fitted in springs for production.
