1110 + 412 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}7/JH. 18th. August, 1939. Borg & Beck Co.Ltd., Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa. For the attention of Mr. Armitage. re 10" Long Clutch. Dear Sirs, With reference to the writers visit to your Works, where the various difficulties associated with a new type of clutch were discussed, we feel that we cannot do better than enclose for your perusal a copy of memo. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}1/JH.17.8.38. which we have written to the Works, as it is realized that it is only by co-operation and pooling of our experiences that we can hope to get the job going on a production basis, and we will therefore be glad to have your remarks on this memo. You will note that a few of the earlier flywheels were not jig drilled, which probably accounts for some of the holes in the covers of the clutches we returned for correction being reamed oversize, and there is also the possibility of distortion or error in the casing to consider. It certainly appears vital that the drilling of the cover and the flywheel should correspond accurately, as this controls both the balancing and the accuracy of the release lever setting. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLL-ROYCE LTD. | ||
