REID A.{Mr Adams} RAILTON-DIRECTOR & CHIEF ENGINEER. YOUR REF. 52/28/D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} OUR REF. RAR/MVG. PLEASE REPLY TO: BROOKLANDS TRACK. 12th October, 1935. W.A. Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce, Limited, DERBY. Dear Mr. Robotham, Thanks for your letter of the 8th. The control to which you refer is simply a small dash-pot operating in the fuel which controls the rate at which the throttle shuts. It was introduced to overcome the transmission clank at the moment of torque reversal, but was put forward from the sales angle as increasing the comfort of the passenger on the principle of making a virtue of necessity. The sales people actually fell for this and it has been retained at their request. On the Railton car we disconnected, as the feeling of insecurity due to the throttle not shutting directly you took your foot off the accelerator, is to my mind most objectionable. I enclose herewith a print showing the construction. You might return this when you have finished with it as it is the only one over here. Are you coming down to the Show next week? If so, you might let me know when, so that we can have a meal together. Yours sincerely, Reid A Railton Enc. -RAILTON CARS- | ||
