X1104 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}15/KW. 11th October, 1935 A.C. Bertelli, Esq., Messrs. Aston Martin Ltd., Feltham, Middlesex. Dear Bertelli, Firstly, congratulations from Tresilian and myself on what appears in to-day's "Autocar". Secondly, I have to tell you that in the interests of science the aluminium drum you lent to us came in two pieces at 300°C. I am very sorry this happened, and hope you will accept our apologies and payment for the drum. Learning from this episode, we only ran the electro drum up to 200°C. before taking a cooling curve. We shall be returning this drum and the steel one to you very shortly, after getting a temperature rise curve on both at a constant H.P. input. As the damage to the alum. drum occurred before we had done any tests, I am wondering whether you have a sufficient supply and would be willing to sell us a second drum also in L.8 to complete the tests. I know this is damned impertinence and hope to be forgiven. Even at 200°C. the electron drum leaves the steel liner by an angular gap of .010". The rest of the news when I see you, which if not before is Oct. 26th, lunch at Olympia, please remember. Yours sincerely, | ||
