Failures of springs and seizure issues on Goshawk Bendix starter motor drives.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG26. 7. 22. GOSHAWK BENDIX DRIVES X.3592. We have had a total of three springs break on the Bendix drives on the Starter motor. These failures have all occurred with the original design of Bendix. Up to the present we have had no trouble with the improved Bendix except that we have noticed that there are signs of seizure between the motor shaft and the driving sleeve. The only movement that takes place there is due to the torsional movement allowed by the driving spring. There is no provision made for lubricating. We think it probable that if the part is put together well lubricated it should last a considerable time without showing signs of seizure. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
