De/IND. 1044 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}6/G.13.1.38. 802 BENTLEY 50. SEMI-FLOATING REAR AXLE. Herewith is FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}90 Arrangement of Rear Axle Shafts, Tubes, Hub and Bearing etc. for the above. Details can be made direct from this FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} drawing. Dunlop Disc wheels are shewn. We should like details of the wheel, axle tube and axle shafts, as soon as possible to begin enquiries for supplies. We think Messrs. Sankeys should be asked to quote for the disc wheels as well as Dunlops. We do not propose to fit the extra oil seal shewn in the upper view at the hub, so that the lower one should be detailed. There are oil seals in the centre box. This axle is intended for Bentley 50, but it may also be used on Bentley lll and Wraith lll. The track of Bentley 50 is 58" the same as Bentley lll, and it is for this the tubes and shafts should be detailed. Application to Wraith lll will be by using the same tube and shaft forgings, machined differently. There are slight modifications to the brake gear, which will be shewn on a separate drawing to follow. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} | ||
