We find no difference between the present standard 40/50 Car and the spigot which comes below the former governor case of the previous design. On the 40-50 Car this spigot has worn badly, we find that so much that the gap between the contact breaker can be varied .008" by it. On all cars which come in for overhaul this spigot is renewed, and so much time and expense is taken up in this connection with the bronze bushing.
At present the spigot formed on the Governor Case is a hardened steel bush to run in the contact breaker. We recommend that we should be allowed to fit a hardened steel bush on the casing.
Hold on.
Report from Crewe with the sample contact breaker.
A minimum is considered essential.
