Dear Com.Briggs: In consequence of your complaint regarding foreign bodies in Shell Petrol we have carried out an extensive examination of samples of our own spirit and that of principal competitors drawn from several areas in this country, these samples being filtered through hard black filter paper and the paper carefully examined. The result of these experiments is that a certain amount of impurity, chiefly dust, was found in practically all the samples but our spirit compared favourably for cleanliness with that of our competitors. We take an infinite amount of care in seeing that our spirit is delivered as free as possible from any impurities but owing to the presence of particles of dust, [handwritten insertion: in the air] some of them will always find their way into the spirit.
