Removal of Pinion Bearing. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}

To rebuild the pinion and bearings reverse the previous operations. When assembled there should be a .002" nip on the pinion bearing. To attain and check this nip on the pinion bearing, when assembled and the nuts round the bearing housing cover tightened with the fingers, it should be possible to pass a .002" feeler between the bearing housing cover and the adjusting washer. If this is not possible or if the clearance is too great another adjusting washer should be chosen accordingly.

Removal of Rear Axle Drivers.

To remove the rear axle drivers,

(1) Jack up rear of car.
(2) Remove rear wheels.
(3) Remove end cover.
(4) Remove split pin from axle shaft, and undo nut.
(5) Withdraw drivers with special tool. (Fig. ).

N.B. Two ¼" holes are provided in the drivers for extracting purposes.

When replacing the drivers, if the old ones are slack in the splines the hub should be re-broached with the special broaching tool. (Fig. ) The drivers are available in oversizes of .002", .003" and .005". On no account should the new drivers be forced into place. Before fitting they should be liberally coated with grease.
