Extract from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}40/T241012. TURNING CIRCLE. We can still turn our present standard chassis in 44 ft circle (actually 44'6") when turning to "near" side, but the turn to the "off" side is over 47 ft, this might be reduced by altering the shape of the steering connecting tube so that it is further under the front spring. The "setting" of this tube however has been a big job to clear everything under all conditions. In testing steering locks it is very important that the stops should be set so that the front wheels have their full lock, i.e. the tyre should only clear the frame or steering tube by 1/4". This of course is affected by the various sizes and types of tyres used, Our records are with 895 X 135 standard Dunlop tyres. [Handwritten on left margin] X426 | ||
