To BJ. from Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}1/W81019. RE WEAR OF BLACK FINISH ON PRINCE OF WALES' CAR. With reference to BJ6/D27919, this matter was raised some ten days or a fortnight ago and the enamelling process has since been improved. We found that the corners and edges were more rapidly than we had anticipated and we are now using, therefore, a harder enamel and more coats. We think that in any case the corners and edges will wear ultimately, and several months ago Mr. Royce pointed out that this would be so, and that he did not think it would be objectionable. The position is therefore that, although we may expect the corners and edges to wear white after some weeks or months of wear, we think that this is not objectionable since the original idea of the Black Finish was to avoid the glare of the Nickel Silver parts.
