It will be obvious that it was not in my mind to give GHW. at Chateauroux instructions which were unknown to you from the following two extracts, both from memos dated the 24th ult., one sent to you and the other to GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} "If it so happens that the Bensport may be available to pick me up at Calais at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday as had been intended before, I would be very glad if you would kindly arrange this, otherwise I shall take the train". To GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} "I have asked Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} to arrange with you, if it is possible, for the Bensport to meet me as previously arranged at Calais at 2 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, and I shall hope to hear well in time before I leave on Wednesday whether this is possible, or whether I shall decide to take the train". You will see therefore that you were entirely informed as to the proposition and I naturally concluded when I heard at the last moment on Tuesday afternoon that it was not desired that I should run any mileage on this dx car at that date that you had communicated to the extent necessary with GWH.{George W.
