X4583a Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. 5.4.33. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From G.W.H. B E N S P O R T We have received your memo Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KT.3.4.33. We thank you for your remarks re the copper asbestos gasket. The engine certainly runs smoother with the use of it. PETROL PUMPS We have sent you a sketch of the failure of the pumps which you would receive after the dispatch of your letter. I am sorry I cannot return the pumps that failed as it was a case of either putting them right or being held up with the car, therefore I tackled one pump and got it working satisfactory and then tackled the other. I hope the sketch I sent will be clear enough to take the failures up with the makers. BRAKES We will endeavour to ascertain where the springiness of the brakes takes place. We have of course been more interested in getting mileage for the piston trouble. These appear to be satisfactory. We have now completed 3687 miles with the new pistons. I propose dismantling them at 5000 to have a look at the condition. CRANKSHAFT PERIOD The half crank period peak at 2300 revs. is now very noticeable after the engine has warmed up. I see by my specification that cotton duck friction discs are fitted, the damping load is given at 20 lbs. We shall dismantle the slipper drive when we examine the pistons. OIL TEMPERATURES We carried out a further series of tests with the timing case lagged and unlagged to see whether the more sttled weather produced different results. Apparently there is very little in it. | ||
