PETROL FOR AERO ENGINES. X1282

The recognised service fuel for aero engines is Aviation with an addition of 20% Benzol. All type tests must be run with this fuel. We therefore consider it is essential that we should adopt this fuel as the standard on all aero engine testing.

At the present time on production we are using aviation with no addition of benzol. On experimental engines we use the 20% benzol standard fuel except on special high compression jobs where we go up as high as 50% benzol.

Up to the present we have carried out all the mixing at the Works. This entails labour and we have to have a lot of fuel stored in drums. We have been in communication with the Shell people and they have agreed to deliver in bulk aviation spirit with 20% benzol added. We strongly recommend that we arrange that all aero engine fuel which comes into the Works shall be aviation with 20% benzol added.

We prefer Shell fuel, but their price is not right we are prepared to consider any other brand which is used by the Air Ministry.
