PY. from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINALX DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}7/G.11.3.30. X 7420. X832 EXCELSIOR DAMPER ON PHANTOM 11. Referring to N. Sch. 3048 - Excelsior Damper on Front Axle, we see on further examination of the drawing that the note at the bottom left hand corner indicating the least clearance between the damper and the spring, does not take account of the bumped position of the axle, when as can be seen in the elevation the spring clip approaches the upper arm of the damper, and the clearance is reduced to .175. Should this be found to be insufficient to provide for thickness of gaiter and reasonable tolerances, the whole damper may be moved out at the expense of the steering joint clearance at the top joint of the damper, or the damper may be inclined in plan to avoid loss of steering clearance but at the expense of tyre clearance.
