Newark-on-Trent.

For the attention of F.O.Hickling Esq.

Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letters of the 5th and 7th instant, and we note your remarks re the hardness and the depth of case of the steering roller which we sent to you.

In answer to your query concerning the load on these rollers, we can give you the maximum load with reasonable accuracy. This load occurs when turning the front wheels with the car stationary and in the case of the Ph.III type roller with 0.187 dia. parraller roller bearings, it amounts to 3600 lbs normal to the inner faces of the teeth. In the case of the ball bearing type of roller on the 25/30 HP. the load is 3100 lbs. We estimate that the mean load is about 1/3 of the above maxima.

We hope to be sending you the fifteen sets of parts for finish grinding very shortly.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
