COPY TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sent to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X 5830. XXXXXXXX "CANACHA". WEST WITTERINGHenry Royce's home town. CHICHESTER. 30. Jan. 1930. Messrs Barker & Co. Ltd. ATTENTION OF MR. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} MUNRO. Dear Sirs, 20HP. CLOSE COUPLED ALL-WEATHER. 16-G-4. - Mr. BOYCE This is to confirm that we left with you the above car on Monday Jan. 27. to have modifications made to the coachwork. In our letter of the 29. June 1929. we enumerated the following defects, and in your letter ref: BM/IB. of July 1. 1929., you said you would like to have an opportunity of inspecting the defects. We take it that these corrections will be carried out free of charge: (1) The bottom door hinge, which is a real out-rigger extending 2½" is too weak and bends, consequently the doors have dropped, and the wood screws have pulled out of the door frame. We suggest that you should stiffen these hinges and use bolts for fixing the hinge to both the door pillar and the door. (2) No provision is made for holding the squab of the rear seat in position: when braking hard it flies forward and then falls back with a bang. (3) There is no provision for steadying the hood when down: we would like some metal clips to be added. Under the present conditions the hood jumps about and makes a noise. (4) The driving seat cushion fouled the side levers when in its correct position. We have had to temporarily remedy this as you will see. (5) The car cannot be driven with the windows up and the hood down; owing to the rear end of the glass not being sufficiently well guided it dithers violently. We suggest that either a folding guide is needed or a stiffer channel with a longer guide in the door. (1) | ||
