To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} 1139 Les/FS.{F. Steele}10/B.19.7.40. With further reference to our recent memos Les/FS.{F. Steele}12/B.15.7.40 and Les/FS.{F. Steele}2/B.21.6.40, and confirming our 'phone conversation yesterday, we are forwarding to you herewith another Filter Assembly E.87841. This type of filter has been used on Phantom III chassis from A to D series and whilst on production was manufactured by Messrs. Batterby & Hefford. In July last year, the Repair Department requisitioned a quantity of 150 filters for replacement purposes and this order was placed with Messrs. W.H.Paul Ltd. These filters were delivered to us in November last but were of such poor workmanship that same were flatly rejected by the Inspection Department and the parts in question returned to the makers for replacement. Messrs.Paul Ltd. forwarded the necessary credit to balance our account. In March this year, Messrs. Paul Ltd. again re-opened the matter by forwarding to us 4 further samples from which the enclosed filter has been taken. We now wish to know if such sample can be approved for use on chassis repairs and replacements and perhaps you will let us have a decision as soon as ever possible.
