Attention:- Mr. S.H. Grylls.
Dear Sirs,
Replying to your letter Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}5/MH{M. Huckerby} dated 31/5/39 - we do not believe it to be practicable to fit solid tyres to your standard well-base rim 4.1/2"/16" to give a running radius approximately the same as a 6.50/16 pneumatic tyre.
A satisfactory job could be done by the use of 27.3/4" x 3.1/2" for 23.1/2" fitting diameter solid tyres - providing the peripheral speed of the contact face of the tyres do not exceed 25 M.P.H. or run for long periods. The above solid tyre is of the "press on" type and would necessitate the use of a suitable wheel with an outside diameter of 23.5" + .005" / -.000".
If you would furnish us with the details of your present wheel and hub we would gladly purchase wheels on your behalf of if you prefer to make the wheels yourselves we would be pleased to supply the necessary drawings.
Yours Faithfully,
THE AVON INDIA RUBBER COMPANY LIMITED.
