X.3552. To Ck.{Mr Clark} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to CJ. c. to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to PN.{Mr Northey} R19/G5.3.20. X. 3552. RE CAR WIRING CONNECTION SOCKETS. With reference to the plug part of the above fitting for the portable light or voltmeter, it will be advisable in our own designs to use the two pins of distinctly different diameters, or some similar means of preventing the plug being inserted the wrong way because we believe that in some cases a connection for the charging battery while in the garage may be made at this point. I strongly recommend this practice from my own experience, and strongly condemn the practice we occasionally hear of running a car round the park to get a charge into the battery. X.3526. X.3560. A long time ago I decided that we ought to make our own dynamos. At this time I considered the vibrator regulator the best scheme, and many times I have suggest to Mr. Clark that this might give the best weight efficiency, internal heat, etc. to a dynamo. During Mr. Hives' recent visit he pressed me to make the necessary calculations for one of our own starter motors to see ifwe could get a trial dynamo made that would give us all we require. I want Mr. Clark to come here with all data, and we will together make some calculations of winding. Contd. | ||
