(1) RE DESIGN OF CHASSIS BUILT BY R.R. AMERICA Inc.

The Conference after discussing the above question, which had been brought to front owing to receipt of cables suggesting certain departures from our standard design, came to following conclusions:-

(1) It was of the utmost importance that there should not be an American type and an English type of chassis.

(2) America had previously recognised the extreme importance of paragraph (1) and cabled agreement, but now they were desirous of following what appeared to them to be an easier path to ensure earlier production.

(3) The Conference are certain that the quickest way, as well as being the most reliable one, for getting production is by adhering absolutely to our present design and specification in every feature and Derby are even prepared as a final resource, to produce parts for America where America cannot do so themselves, e.g. the Starter Motor, as they consider that to start off on a new design and specification for this would be fatal to American production, as proved by our repeated experiences at Derby when a new design and specification has been hastily turned to in order to get out of the present difficulty, and in this case it is merely a temporary one due to facilities to manufacture.
