be carried on with, but Mr.Platford was able to report further on the changeover job and had got out a rough cost for the fixing of Shock Absorbers retrospectively, that is to say for 312 cars, including 150 on test. This is only a very approximate cost and does not include Establishment Charges or Profits, it is cost of labour and material only, and has yet to be approved by D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}

This cost works out at roughly £6,500.

EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} brought up this question as to whether, in view of this excessive cost, the fixing of Shock Absorbers was worth while. He also anticipated considerable trouble with the coachbuilders and customers, in doing this after the car has left W.

He was also doubtful whether the improvement to the car by fixing Shock Absorbers would be appreciated by the majority of customers.

He recommended that Shock Absorbers should only be fitted retrospectively to customers who have complained and whose complaint would be overcome by fixing Shock Absorbers.

The Meeting were of the opinion that the need for Shock Absorbers was not of as paramount importance now as it was in the time of the earlier deliveries, because we have found that the complaints from customers have not materialised as was expected.

The Conference are also of the opinion that as the Shock Absorber is not standardised and that it has been found necessary to incorporate further design features which affect the luggage grid as well as certain Shock Absorber parts, that we are not in a position to proceed.

The Conference were also of the opinion that as this is such an important point it ought to be brought up at the conference at Derby on the 16th June.
