BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X. 7230 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}1/M14.9.28. 'SS{S. Smith}' EXHAUST SYSTEM. Herewith we send the following drgs. dealing with parts of the exhaust system. 1. N.sch.2703 - Front end of exhaust pipe. 2. N.sch.2704 - Forward stay. 3. N.sch.2705 - Silencer. 4. N.sch.2706 - Swan neck and fish-tail. There is a gen. arrgt., and also a design of the heat shield, to follow. It will be seen that the general idea is two fixed points, one at the forward pipe, and the other at the silencer, with a sliding joint in between. We have endeavoured that the joint shall slide by giving it very long bearing control. The fixed point at the front permits of downward expansion of the pipe, but no horizontal movement. As regards the silencer we have discarded the present pot ends, substituting shallow pressed ends, and we believe that this will cheapen the production. On N.sch.2706 there is a new type of a flange piece for the swan-neck, reducing the number of brazed joints. We believe that as shewn it is a comparatively simple forging, but we should like to have any remarks you may have to make. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
