1328 January 3rd.1938. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.6/AP. Messrs S.Smith & Sons Ltd., CRICKLEWOOD WORKS, LONDON N.W.2. For the attention of Mr.Grose. Dear Sirs, We have completed preliminary tests on the thermostat system using your unit X30065 and so far this unit has proved satisfactory except that the running temperature which it gives is on the low side. We would like you, therefore, to alter the setting of the second unit which we have asked you to supply, to an opening temperature of 83°C (± 1°C). Will you please let us know at what temperature this thermostat (83°C opening temp.) will reach its full lift. We would also like to know whether an alteration to the valve seating diameter would affect the price of this unit. We are naturally anxious to keep as close to the standard unit as possible, but may require to alter the valve seat dia. to 1.5/16" dia. or 1¼" dia. This only means a difference in machining and, presumably, should not increase the price materially. We would like to know, however, what this increase is likely to be. An early reply would be appreciated. If you have already despatched the second unit we would like you to send us a third with altered opening temperature and we will send you an order for this third unit. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
