Thank you for your various memos and for the copy of your streamline report. Punt has written to me regarding body insulation, and I am arranging to see him this week to go over the job.

We will run the Goodrich tyres on the Bentley when we get them and let you know how they perform.

I note your remarks re. servo judders on Wraith and will refrain from mentioning them in the Daily Reports.

We have carried out extensive tests on effects of fixed radiator shutters, on snow covered roads near Clermont-Ferrand, and have obtained perfectly satisfactory running with both oil and under-bonnet temperatures below 10°c. The failure which we previously experienced occurred once only. The engine went right out and could not be started again for a short time and then ran normally again. All efforts to repeat the failure by reproducing the circumstances were unsuccessful, so we could not find the cause. In the course of the tests we showed that low oil and under-bonnet temperatures alone had no adverse effect on the mixture strength, and the thermostat maintained the water at 80°c throughout the tests. We also noted that water heated induction pipe was approximately at this temperature at all times.

The air temperature in front of the front car-burreter was 15°c lower under some conditions than behind the rear carburetter, but as previously stated, the low temperature at the air intake had no ill effects on the running, so we can see no useful object in reversing the air silencer.

The trouble we experience seems to require a lot of wet or powdering snow thrown up at the underneath of the car to make it happen and these conditions are not readily found round here. Will you please let us know to what extent you wish us to follow the job up.
